About H Y

Hok Yan served pupillage with Mr. Andrew Raffell, Mr. Kevin Hon, Ms. Elizabeth Herbert and Mr. Lincoln Cheung before commencing full practice as a barrister in September 2018.

Hok Yan is currently developing a broad practice in both civil and criminal matters and accepts instructions in all areas of Chambers’ work.  Hok Yan has appeared as an advocate (either in his own right or as a led junior) in all levels of courts and tribunals.  On the civil side, Hok Yan has experience in areas such as contract, company, commercial, insolvency, bankruptcy, land, trust, construction, family, probate, employment, money lending, defamation, personal injuries and injunction applications.  Hok Yan also has experience in arbitration and mediation, and also render legal advices to private clients in various matters, inter alia, intended judicial reviews, and compliance matters in IPO applications.  On the criminal side, Hok Yan undertakes a wide range of general and white-collar criminal cases, involving commercial frauds, blackmailing, money laundering, theft, drugs, traffic offenses, and immigration offenses, etc.

Prior to joining the Bar, Hok Yan was the Chief Administrative Officer of a start-up company participating incubation program by Hong Kong Science and Technology Park and was also the Company Secretary of Gustav Mahler Orchestra, a non-profit-making orchestra in Hong Kong, which he advised both organizations on corporate governance and compliance matters.

Hok Yan is capable of providing written submissions and conducting hearings in both English and Chinese.  He speaks English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
